Love at first bite

The Nando’s story begins in 1987, when Fernando Duarte invited his friend, entrepreneur Robbie Brozin, to sample the signature PERi-PERi marinated chicken at a restaurant in Rosettenville. It was love at first bite. The two joined forces and purchased the restaurant. Their focus was sourcing fresh local ingredients as well as the PERi-PERi sauces that would become the centrepiece of the restaurant chain they named Nando’s, after founding member Fernando. Within a few years they had four outlets, 3 locally and one in Portugal.

Sizzling experience

The first Nando’s to open its doors to the people of Zimbabwe was the flagship store in Avondale, Harare, in 1995. After a revamp in 2011 it remains one of Simbisa’s most popular outlets, with a large, devoted and loyal customer base. Nando’s is famous for more than just its legendary chicken and delicious range of PERi-PERi sauce; it is also where customers will be met with a warm welcome and invited to make themselves at home.

Each outlet has its own unique design, all incorporating earthy textures and colours, elements that hark back to our Afro-Portuguese roots. Many outlets even feature original South African works of art and design accents. The mood is set with cool Afro-Luso beats and friendly staff, all of which set the backdrop to an unforgettable dining experience where the highlight is Nando’s legendary flame-grilled chicken, served on beautiful high- quality crockery. Nando’s invites one and all to join it’s table for a sizzling experience. The one thing Nando’s loves as much as delicious PERi-PERi chicken is big, happy gatherings.
